Assembly Theory & Process

Understanding Through Disassembly

In the 1990s, Jay Baldwin led a team including Trip Hill to carefully disassemble the Wichita Dymaxion House for museum restoration. Working backward through the construction revealed Fuller's assembly logic and dimensional thinking.

Key Insight

By documenting deconstruction, architects learned how structures emerge from fundamental geometric principles: point → line → angle → triangle → tetrahedron.
